Empowering Futures: Success Laventille Secondary Students benefit from Financial Literacy Workshop.
CFASTT and UTC partner to deliver Financial Literacy Workshop

Port of Spain, April 15, 2025 – In a powerful demonstration of corporate collaboration and community impact, the CFA Society Trinidad and Tobago (CFASTT), hosted a dynamic financial literacy and empowerment workshop for Form 5 students of Success Laventille Secondary School, with the support of Chief Financial Officer of the Unit Trust Corporation (UTC), Kerri Maharaj.

Maharaj, author of Financially Wise, Financially Strong, shared his knowledge with the eager participants at the workshop, which was aimed to provide students with practical financial tools and real-world insights in an engaging and relatable format. The initiative was designed to build foundational knowledge and empower students to take charge of their financial futures with confidence.

Held at the offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Port of Spain, the session delivered complex financial concepts in a simplified manner. Both students and teachers expressed deep appreciation for the clarity and relevance of the material presented. Attendees highlighted the workshop’s real-life applications and its role in making financial literacy both accessible and inspiring.

The event was further enriched through the distribution of complimentary copies of Financially Wise, Financially Strong, sponsored by the CFA Society Trinidad and Tobago, along with exciting prizes, sponsored by UTC, that heightened student enthusiasm and participation. The off campus setting also provided a refreshing change of environment, sparking motivation and engagement among students.

This initiative not only highlights the importance of early financial education but also underscores the positive impact of partnerships between the private and public sectors in youth development. Financial education is a core pillar of the Unit Trust Corporation’s mission, and through this collaboration, UTC continues to champion initiatives that equip young people with the knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions.

Together, the CFASTT and UTC reaffirm their commitment to fostering financial literacy and empowerment among young individuals across the country.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants has reinforced the value of such programs, setting the stage for future partnerships aimed at expanding access to impactful financial education initiatives.
