Meet Nigel
Meet Our Executive Director
Nigel Edwards
“I thought I was going to be an engineer and at an early age, I liked to put my hands and my brain to work to solve problems. I first joined the Unit Trust as a customer, as a teenager. At the time, my parents were keen to make sure I was part of the Unit Trust Corporation. It was part of my family.
There was a series of decisions I made, just going with the flow of life, that led me to where I am now. Everybody should know there is always more that is possible.
On this path, I have been able to apply all of the disciplines of an engineer — designing, building and creating value — in various executive positions for more than 25 years in the private and public sector. I developed a reputation for taking critical action in guiding complex, multiple mergers and acquisitions. I have worked in investment banking, corporate finance, structured lending and investment management, as well as in accounting and finance. I am a leading authority on corporate restructuring.
Personal renovation is my philosophy. Your personality has to expand and grow as you expand and grow. I am determined to have a transformative effect on the national landscape.
I felt coming back to the UTC to invest everything I have learned, to help it grow, is to give back to my community and the family that has raised me. The Unit Trust Corporation is one of the most customer-oriented organisations in Trinidad and Tobago.
One thing that every customer expects and speaks really highly of is our extraordinarily high level of service. People everywhere talk about the level of service and the fact that the UTC team really cares about the customer.
Information feeds aspiration and at the Unit Trust Corporation, we are heavily invested in information and aspiration. We have the tools and the expertise to make dreams achievable.”
A national scholarship winner, Mr. Edwards is the holder of an M.Sc. in Finance from the London Business School and a B.Sc. in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine; he is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
